Medicare covers more than most people realize
Many patients assume Medicare does not cover audiology care at all. That is not the full picture. Medicare Part B covers diagnostic hearing evaluations when a physician orders them to help diagnose or treat a medical condition, and Singer Audiology bills Medicare directly for qualifying visits. That means expert care in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, covered by your benefits.

Managed hearing care programs
Some plans advertise hearing aid benefits but require a managed hearing care program that may limit providers, hearing aid manufacturers, and included services. Singer Audiology is independent of these networks, so recommendations are based on your hearing needs rather than an insurance contract.
Medicare hearing test timing
Medicare may cover diagnostic hearing and balance exams when medically necessary. In limited cases, you can also see an audiologist once every 12 months without an order for non-acute hearing concerns.
Out-of-network paperwork
For plans we do not participate with, we are happy to provide a comprehensive, itemized superbill that you can submit to your out-of-network benefits provider.
Earwax removal
Earwax removal is also typically not covered by insurance. The team can review expected costs before your visit if wax removal may be part of your care.
What Medicare covers at Singer Audiology
Original Medicare (Parts A and B)
Medicare Part B covers diagnostic hearing exams when a physician orders them as part of evaluating or treating a medical condition. Medicare may also cover one audiologist visit every 12 months without an order for certain non-acute hearing conditions. After the Part B deductible is met, patients typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount. Original Medicare does not cover hearing aids or routine hearing screenings.
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
Many Medicare Advantage plans go further than Original Medicare, adding routine hearing exams and an allowance toward hearing aids. These benefits vary by plan. Singer Audiology will help you work through what yours includes before your appointment.
FSA and HSA accounts
Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts can generally be applied to hearing evaluations and hearing aids. If you have funds in an FSA or HSA, they are a practical way to cover your care at Singer Audiology. See our payment plan options.
